How don’t know how many of you all have done much fishing, but if you have you know that at the back of the boat is something called a “Livewell”. It’s where you put the fish after you catch them so they can stay alive until you are ready for them to die. I don’t know why it’s called a “livewell”. It cannot be a comfortable situation for that fish. He’s accustomed to this large lake and we’re throwing him in a 4X5 box that has just enough space and water for a few fish to live. This isn’t “thriving” conditions, just living conditions.

And here’s my question. Are we raising students up to live in a “livewell” of the Christian faith? Are we giving them just enough information to live? Doesn’t God call us to thrive? Doesn’t he say in Romans that we are more than conquerors?

Did Jesus Christ in Acts 1 give us the same authority He had?

Pastors, your congregation does not have to live in a livewell. Parents, your children do not have to live in a livewell. God wants them to thrive, not just survive.

The difference between our students and the fish is simple. The fish knows there’s a big lake out there that connects to other lakes and the fish knows that he can go anywhere he wants to go.

Pastor, does your congregation know that?

Parents, do your children know that?

People, do you know that?

We can go. We can do. We have been given the authority over the whole world. What’s stopping you from catching your dream?

What’s stopping you from going into your proverbial “ocean”? What’s holding you back from freedom?
